• Intro to Taiji and Qigong, with Ben Dineen

    Qigong is an ancient system of health, meditation, and wellness. "Qi" is the Chinese character for "life-energy" and "gong" means "work" or "skill". Therefore, one could say, qigong means working with the life-energy in a skillful way.

    The practice of qigong includes various postures, movements, breath and energy awareness, self-massage, and meditation. Taijiquan is a form of martial qigong, which can be practiced solely for it's health and meditative benefits, and/or as an internal martial art.

    In this workshop we will be practicing the 'Silk-Reeling Exercises', other qigong exercises, and standing meditation (Wuji Qigong). The SRE are relaxed circular and spiraling movements from the Chen Taiji tradition. These exercises work to energetically lubricate and coordinate the root, waist, spine, and upper torso, and integrate all parts with the body's physical and energetic center, helping to promote harmonious energy flow through the different energy centers and meridians in the body. This workshop is open to all ages and ability levels.

    Ben Dineen is a longtime practitioner and teacher of hatha yoga, raja yoga, taiji, and qigong, and currently offers classes, workshops, and retreats, at various locations in the SF Bay Area.

This workshop focuses on alleviating tension and stress-one of the leading causes of disease-by combining Restorative Yoga, Essential Oils, and Yoga Nidra. The Restorative Yoga practice helps you discover ways to let go through passive and gentle postures. Yoga Nidra, or yoga sleep, is a conscious deep relaxation that complements the restorative practice. Essential oils are woven in to further enhance relaxation and promote complete surrender. 

    Blankets, bolsters, and other props will be used to support the muscles and bones, allowing the body to release all tension. Restorative postures will be performed in a reclined or seated position and held for a longer time, giving the body a chance fully to relax. Dress in layers and bring a mat. All props will be provided.

  • Help us greet the next half of the year with a celebratory practice of 108 Oms and 108 Sun Salutations. These series of poses are meant to show gratitude to the sun and bring its energy into our bodies. It revitalizes the spirit and refreshes the mind. Om is a mantra, or vibration, that is traditionally chanted at the beginning and end of yoga sessions. It is said to be the sound of the universe.

    Pairing the flow with 108 Oms helps to direct that energy through each of the body's chakras. The vibrations in the body that are caused from mantra chanting balances the nervous and endocrine systems, which then balances our mood and overall sense of well-being. The regular practice of sun salutations and mantra chanting helps us find peace within ourselves, gratitude for our life, and self-love.
